KUALA LUMPUR, February 8 — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim of Malaysia delivered a clear message to Members of Parliament (MPs) at the opening of the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament, urging them to serve the nation and not exploit issues for political or personal gain.
The King emphasized that Parliament should be a noble space for debating matters of public interest and national prosperity, not a platform for heated arguments, insults, or division. He called for MPs to focus on unity and to avoid prioritizing party or group interests over the greater good.
While acknowledging improvements in parliamentary decorum from some MPs, Sultan Ibrahim pointed out that a few still struggled with inappropriate conduct. He expressed appreciation for leaders’ roles in maintaining political stability, contributing to Malaysia’s economic and social progress.
The King’s address set the tone for the 18-day parliamentary session, which will focus on debates, bills, and the country’s future development, including issues such as Malaysia’s ageing population.
