KUALA LUMPUR, February 12 — The University of Manchester South East Asia Centre (UoMSEA) has reinforced its commitment to sustainable finance education by hosting exclusive masterclasses in partnership with AFFIN Group. Led by Ismail Ertürk, Senior Lecturer in Banking at Alliance Manchester Business School, the sessions explored strategies for balancing profitability with sustainability, aligning with Malaysia’s vision of becoming a global leader in Islamic and sustainable finance.

The private masterclass at Menara AFFIN @ TRX provided AFFIN Group’s senior leadership with in-depth insights on financialisation, ESG integration, and sustainable finance instruments such as green bonds and sustainability-linked loans. Following this, a public masterclass titled Sustainable Finance in Action: Unlocking Opportunities was held at The Gardens, Kuala Lumpur, drawing professionals, policymakers, and entrepreneurs eager to explore sustainable finance’s role in economic resilience.

Discussions highlighted regulatory developments, investment strategies, and the significance of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainability goals. AFFIN Bank President & Group CEO Datuk Wan Razly Abdullah emphasized the importance of embracing progressive banking principles, while UoMSEA’s leadership reaffirmed its dedication to fostering impactful knowledge-sharing.

These masterclasses align with Malaysia’s ambition to lead in sustainable finance, supporting its ASEAN 2025 chairmanship and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s vision for global Islamic finance leadership.
