GOMBAK, February 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed the need for formal rules or guidelines dictating how Muslims should conduct themselves at non-Muslim ceremonies, emphasizing that mutual respect and religious boundaries are already well understood.
Speaking during his visit to Batu Caves ahead of Thaipusam celebrations, he reaffirmed that Malaysia’s multicultural society thrives on peaceful coexistence and respect for diversity. “As long as we respect each other’s faiths and do not cross boundaries that compromise religious beliefs, there is no issue,” Anwar stated.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions on proposed new guidelines for Muslim participation in non-Muslim ceremonies, following a joint statement by Minister of Religious Affairs Datuk Na’im Mokhtar and National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
Anwar’s stance underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining interfaith harmony without unnecessary restrictions.
