KUALA LUMPUR, February 26 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke has reaffirmed the government’s decision to open Malaysia’s motor vehicle inspection industry to new players, ending Puspakom’s long-standing monopoly. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Exio Logistics Hub in Shah Alam, Loke emphasized that the move would enhance competition and provide consumers with more choices.
Three firms—Wawasan Bintang, Pakatan Petroleum, and Beriman Gold—have been appointed to conduct inspections alongside Puspakom, with other companies also eligible to apply. Responding to concerns about the firms’ lack of experience, Loke pointed out that no company had prior expertise due to Puspakom’s monopoly.
He dismissed allegations of cronyism, stating that no contracts had been awarded and urging critics to stop politicizing the reform.
