JOHOR BARU, February 26 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke assured that Singapore motorists will be informed in advance before the government begins enforcing the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) for foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia. While the VEP system has been in place since October 1, 2024, enforcement officers are still issuing reminders instead of penalties.
The VEP, issued by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), requires Singapore motorists to install an RFID tagcosting RM10, valid for five years. Alongside the VEP, Singaporean vehicles must also pay a RM20 road charge, linked to a Touch ‘n Go e-wallet account. Currently, motorcycles are exempt, though future enforcement is planned.
