PUTRAJAYA, February 16 – The Home Ministry (MOHA) will prepare a Cabinet memorandum following the government’s decision to amend the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 (Act 736), said Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The ministry will engage with stakeholders, including activists and MPs, before tabling the amendments in Parliament.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously announced that Section 11, which requires landowner consentfor gatherings, will be removed. However, organisers must notify the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) at least five days in advance. Saifuddin reaffirmed that the Madani Government remains committed to protecting public assembly rights, noting that 99% of 7,000 gatherings in 2024 proceeded without restrictions.
