KLANG, March 3 – The ban on using electrical sockets in express buses remains in effect as the government works on finalizing safety guidelines, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced today. He emphasized that the suspension is necessary to assess risks and ensure regulatory compliance before allowing charging facilities on public transport.
Loke stated that authorities are reviewing equipment standards and exploring stricter regulations, including periodic inspections and certification requirements. The government is also working with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to regulate unsafe electrical components in public transport.
The ban follows an incident last November in which a teenager died from electrocution due to faulty wiring on an express bus.
