KLANG, February 18 — The Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will discuss banning the sale of seat belt buckle disablers, or ‘dummy buckles,’ due to rising road safety concerns, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced today. He emphasized that while MOT regulates seat belt use, enforcement against the sale of such devices falls under KPDN’s jurisdiction.

Loke highlighted that dummy buckles, which disable seat belt alarms, compromise safety and violate regulations. The issue gained attention after Negeri Sembilan JPJ reported that over 30% of 195 seat belt violations during the recent Chinese New Year operation involved these accessories. Meanwhile, Loke also confirmed that the ban on three-pin sockets and USB ports in express buses remains in effect following an electrocution incident last year, with new wiring standards expected to be finalized by May.
