MANAMA, March 9 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that Malaysia is focusing on Islamic fintech and education as key areas of collaboration with Bahrain, with several agreements expected to be formalised before May 2025.

Speaking after his official visit, Anwar emphasised the need for sophisticated Islamic financial instruments beyond conventional banking models and stressed the importance of research and education in advancing fintech, digital transformation, and energy transition.

He also highlighted Malaysia’s interest in learning from Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB) and exploring its experience in cryptocurrency regulation. Additionally, Anwar confirmed that Malaysia will enhance cooperation with West Asian countries, with Bahrain supporting Malaysia’s role in the upcoming ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit in May.
