IPOH, March 11 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has stated that there are no immediate plans to introduce electric buses under the BAS.MY stage bus programme due to high costs, with the government opting to continue using Euro 5 diesel buses for now.
Speaking at the BAS.MY service launch in Ipoh, Loke announced the allocation of RM13.17 million annually for the improved and rebranded service, which now includes new buses, expanded routes, and concession cards for eligible commuters.
While electric buses may be introduced gradually in the future, the focus remains on enhancing public transport accessibility, particularly in Perak, with Perak Transit appointed as the service operator.
