KUALA LUMPUR, February 26 – The Sony World Photography Awards has unveiled the finalists and shortlists for its 2025 Professional competition, recognizing 30 photographers for their outstanding visual storytelling and technical excellence. Now in its 18th year, the prestigious competition received over 419,000 submissions from more than 200 countries, highlighting compelling narratives across ten categories, from documentary projects to portraiture and landscape photography.
Winners of each category will be announced at a special gala in London on 16 April, where the coveted Photographer of the Year title will also be revealed. The 2025 exhibition, featuring the works of finalists and shortlisted photographers, will open at Somerset House from 17 April to 5 May 2025 before touring internationally. This year also introduces the Japan Professional Award, celebrating excellence in contemporary Japanese photography, with Noriko Hayashi named its inaugural winner.
