CYBERJAYA, March 22 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has fined Maestra Broadcast Sdn Bhd RM250,000 for uploading offensive content on Era FM’s TikTok account, while lifting the previously issued suspension threat on its broadcasting licence.
The decision followed a review of Maestra’s appeal, remedial actions, and formal apologies, with MCMC also considering the potential impact on Melody and Mix FM, which share the same licence. The fine, approved by the Attorney General’s Chambers, was imposed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
MCMC reaffirmed its stance against content that could incite religious tension and urged all broadcasters to uphold national laws and preserve Malaysia’s multiracial harmony.
