PETALING JAYA, April 2 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that compensation for homeowners affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire will be fully covered by the federal government, state government, and PETRONAS. Following a site visit and briefing by authorities, he confirmed that all restoration, repairs, and rebuilding efforts will be undertaken by these parties, though the process may take up to a year or more.
As an immediate relief measure, owners of fully damaged homes will receive RM5,000 for temporary lodging, while owners of partially affected homes will be given RM2,500 in financial aid. Ensuring the safety of affected residents remains the government’s top priority, with authorities conducting thorough investigations before allowing residents to return. Anwar emphasized that discussions are ongoing between the Housing and Local Government Ministry, state government, and PETRONAS to determine the best course of action.
Meanwhile, government machinery will be mobilized for clean-up efforts, and a dialogue with residential associations will be held to address concerns and future plans. “For now, we urge patience, as safety comes first,” he stated, reiterating that all necessary precautionary and recovery measures are in place.
