PETALING JAYA, April 11 – Putra Heights residents affected by the recent gas pipeline fire can now reprint essential vehicle documents at mobile Road Transport Department (JPJ) counters set up at relief centres. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that driver’s licenses, road tax documents, and vehicle ownership certificates (VOC) will be reissued without bureaucratic hurdles or the need for police reports.
“Residents only need to provide their name and identity card to obtain their documents free of charge,” Loke said, adding that Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has also deployed shuttle vans to assist those who lost their vehicles, offering transport to nearby public transit hubs. To further aid mobility, Chery Malaysia has donated 50 temporary vehicles, while CARO Car Rentals has pledged 30 more for affected residents. Those in need can register at the Selangor exco office.
Additionally, Berjaya Corporation Berhad founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan has pledged RM3,000 in cash assistance per affected family, and the Transport Ministry is working on securing sponsorships to replace destroyed motorcycles. The April 1 fire, caused by a Petronas gas pipeline leak, left 88 housing and shop units damaged, displacing hundreds. Authorities continue efforts to support recovery and rehabilitation for those impacted.
