KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 — As Chair of ASEAN, Malaysia is leading regional efforts to coordinate a joint response to the United States’ reciprocal tariff policy. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held discussions with leaders from Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, and Singapore, emphasizing ASEAN’s need for unity in trade negotiations to ensure fairness and equity.
The issue will be further addressed during the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting next week. In a separate development, Prime Minister Anwar praised Intel Corporation’s continued commitment to Malaysia during a courtesy visit from the tech giant’s executive vice president, Dr. Naga Chandrasekaran. Anwar acknowledged Intel’s RM2.4 billion investment in a new facility currently under construction, underscoring the company’s pivotal role in Malaysia’s semiconductor industry.
He also highlighted Intel’s contribution to talent development, with 250 local workers now undergoing training. Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s appreciation for Intel’s long-term confidence and partnership, calling for continued collaboration with global tech leaders to advance the nation’s economic and technological growth.
