GEORGE TOWN, April 7 – Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) has announced that water supply recovery efforts during the upcoming April 2025 Scheduled Water Supply Interruption (SWSI) will see 40% of affected consumers regain access within 24 hours, and 88% within 48 hours. The water supply disruption, set to commence at 10:00 PM on 25 April 2025, will impact over 431,000 consumers across Seberang Perai and Penang Island as PBAPP undertakes 23 essential water works projects in 26 locations to upgrade the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (WTP).

By 10:00 PM on 27 April, water is expected to return to nearly 90% of affected areas, with full restoration projected by 10:00 AM on 28 April. Critical zones such as major industrial sites and the Penang International Airport are included in the 48-hour recovery scope. PBAPP urges affected residents to store sufficient water for up to 60 hours depending on their area, and a detailed water tanker deployment plan will be released to mitigate inconvenience.

This is PBAPP’s only planned SWSI for the year, aimed at significantly enhancing service reliability for 465,000 consumers. The RM25 million upgrade builds upon the RM31 million investment in 2024 which increased the Sungai Dua WTP’s capacity to 1,342 million litres per day (MLD). The new works will enable higher-pressure water delivery and faster recovery times during both scheduled and unscheduled outages.

Consumers can access detailed area maps and updates via PBAPP’s official website and Facebook page. PBAPP apologises for the temporary inconvenience and appreciates public cooperation in supporting Penang’s long-term water supply resilience.
