GEORGE TOWN, April 15 — The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has called on state and federal authorities to urgently investigate and resolve ongoing pollution in the Juru River, which has severely impacted fishermen and cockle breeders in Kampung Kuala Juru.
CAP reports that drifting weed and plastic waste from the Rambai River have been disrupting marine livelihoods for the past five years, with damaged fishing gear and stunted cockle growth causing income losses.
CAP demands immediate intervention from the Penang state government, MBSP, DOE, and DID, along with strict enforcement and compensation for affected communities.
