SEPANG, April 16 — Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Malaysia yesterday evening for a three-day state visit, marking his second official trip to the country in 12 years. Greeted at the Bunga Raya Complex of KLIA by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and key cabinet members, President Xi was accorded full ceremonial honours, including a cultural performance and a guard of honour by the Royal Ranger Regiment.
His visit comes at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and follows the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations celebrated last year. During the visit, Xi will meet with Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Negara and attend a state banquet hosted in his honour. He is also scheduled for bilateral talks with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to deepen Malaysia-China cooperation and address regional and international issues.
This state visit, part of Xi’s 2025 Southeast Asia tour including Vietnam and Cambodia, reaffirms China’s long-standing economic and strategic ties with Malaysia—its largest trading partner since 2009, with trade reaching RM484.12 billion in 2024.
