PUTRAJAYA, April 17 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Chinese President Xi Jinping witnessed the exchange of 31 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and documents yesterday, marking a new chapter of strategic cooperation between Malaysia and China.

The agreements, signed during Xi’s state visit to Malaysia, span a wide range of sectors including artificial intelligence, digital economy, railway, media, education, and satellite technology. Among the highlights was an MoU between national broadcaster RTM and China’s Xinhua News Agency to foster collaboration in news production and cultural programming, while another involved the establishment of a China-Malaysia AI and new materials joint laboratory by University of Malaya and Peking University.

Science and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang also inked agreements on joint laboratories and the application of China’s BeiDou Satellite System. Transport Minister Anthony Loke signed an MoU to strengthen railway cooperation, and Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo formalised two agreements focused on AI and digital economy collaboration. In higher education and tourism, several MoUs were exchanged to boost cultural exchanges, translation of literary classics, and the promotion of heritage tourism.

Additionally, an agreement on mutual visa exemption and MoUs on intellectual property, trade standardisation, and development cooperation were signed. These landmark agreements underscore the growing depth of Malaysia-China ties and the shared commitment to building a robust, forward-looking partnership aligned with regional prosperity and technological advancement.
