KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 – In a landmark joint statement, 21 Malaysian consumer organisations, led by FOMCA, CAP, and TWN, declared unwavering support for the government’s new policy mandating medicine price transparency in private healthcare facilities and pharmacies starting 1 May 2025.
Citing decades of failed self-regulation and extreme price disparities, the coalition praised the Ministry of Health (KKM) and Ministry of Domestic Trade (KPDN) for upholding the public’s right to clear, itemised medicine pricing under Akta 723.
Emphasising that price transparency is a basic consumer right and not an industry inconvenience, the coalition urged Malaysians to assert their rights, report non-compliance, and reject profiteering practices that place profits above public health.
