GEORGE TOWN, May 2 — In conjunction with Earth Day 2025, the Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has urged all sectors of Malaysian society to embrace a just and urgent energy transition, highlighting the need to phase out fossil fuels and embrace clean, renewable alternatives.
Echoing this year’s global theme, “Our Power, Our Planet”, CAP stressed that the recent gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights should serve as a wake-up call for the country to prioritise safety, sustainability, and energy efficiency in national policy and practice.
To mark Earth Day, CAP has launched a grassroots initiative involving 12 Penang schools in an Energy Saving and Efficiency Project, empowering student-led monitoring and practical conservation efforts. In addition, CAP will host public educational talks with the Penang Green Council at KOMTAR on April 22, promoting climate literacy and actionable energy-saving tips.
CAP continues to advocate for stronger climate leadership from the government and environmentally responsible practices from businesses, emphasising that meaningful change begins with every household, classroom, and community.
