KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 — The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) and the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost the promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding practices across the nation.

The MoU, signed on April 24 by MOH Director-General Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi bin Abu Hassan and WABA Chairperson Emeritus Dato’ Seri (Dr.) Anwar Fazal, marks a significant step in addressing the dual burden of malnutrition and ensuring optimal infant health during the critical first 1,000 days of life.

This collaboration will foster inclusive, evidence-based initiatives in advocacy, training, and community programs aligned with Malaysia’s National Plan of Action for Nutrition (NPANM) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It also strengthens Malaysia’s positioning as a regional leader ahead of the 2026 ASEAN Health Ministers’ Meeting.

With WABA’s global expertise and grassroots networks, the partnership will support impactful initiatives such as the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and empower mothers with the knowledge and confidence to breastfeed in safe, supportive environments.
