KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — In a landmark move to revolutionize Malaysia’s semiconductor sector, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), and Bintang Capital Partners have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the Bintang Semiconductor Impact Fund I (BSIF I).

This strategic partnership aims to future-proof the domestic semiconductor industry by strengthening local capabilities, promoting sustainability, and supporting SME growth, aligning closely with Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy. MIDA CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid highlighted the collaboration as a pivotal step towards establishing Malaysia as a global semiconductor hub.

While FMM President Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai emphasized the initiative’s role in helping businesses become IPO-ready and enhancing competitiveness across the manufacturing sector. Bintang Capital CEO Johan Rozali-Wathooth underlined the partnership’s commitment to responsible capitalism, highlighting the Fund’s focus on high-tech manufacturing, automation, environmental sustainability, and empowering women.

BSIF I will target companies within and adjacent to the semiconductor value chain, promoting carbon transition initiatives and adhering to global B Corp certification standards. Through this transformative collaboration, Malaysia aims to build a highly differentiated and impactful high-technology manufacturing ecosystem, propelling the nation onto the global stage as a leader in sustainable semiconductor development.
