GEORGE TOWN, April 30 — Malaysia is poised to transform into an AI-powered smart nation, beginning with the implementation of state-level smart city initiatives, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said today. Speaking after a visit to the Penang Island City Council’s Intelligent Operations Center (IOC), Gobind emphasised the need for strong digital infrastructure to support the development of advanced technologies and full digitalisation across the country.

Gobind praised Penang’s progress in adopting AI-driven solutions, noting that the city’s integration of AI into traffic management systems has significantly optimised traffic flow and reduced congestion. “Penang’s efforts exemplify how AI can modernise infrastructure and services, boost productivity, and enhance citizens’ quality of life,” he said, adding that similar smart city initiatives are underway in Wilayah Persekutuan, Johor, and Sarawak.

The minister assured that the Digital Ministry will continue to strengthen the nation’s digital infrastructure to support these advancements, reinforcing the government’s commitment to using technology for the betterment of society. “With advancing technology, we will see more sophisticated innovation moving forward, ensuring Malaysia’s place as a leading smart nation,” Gobind said.
