GEORGE TOWN, May 20 — The upcoming establishment of the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre (IMFC) in Penang is being hailed as a pivotal move by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Penang, which believes it will streamline approvals and boost reinvestment decisions for local and multinational companies.

FMM Penang chairman Datuk Seri Lee Teong Li called the initiative timely and strategic, reinforcing Penang’s role as a leading hub in high-value manufacturing and global supply chains. Lee emphasized that the IMFC would ease regulatory burdens by reducing bureaucratic delays and improving coordination among government agencies — a major advantage for companies looking to expand, particularly in the high-tech sector.

He added that the centre could also help address industry-wide challenges such as infrastructure, talent development, and regulatory clarity, thereby strengthening investor confidence and Penang’s global competitiveness. The IMFC, initially launched by MIDA in 2023, aims to fast-track business processes and investment approvals.

Following its expansion to Johor in February, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced Penang and Sarawak as the next strategic locations, reinforcing the government’s commitment to drive regional economic growth through enhanced facilitation and streamlined investment support.
