KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 – Cisco’s 2025 Cybersecurity Readiness Index reveals only 3% of Malaysian organizations have reached a mature state of security readiness, with 93% experiencing AI-related security incidents in the past year.

Despite AI’s growing role in cyber defense—used by 83% of firms for threat detection—most organizations struggle with shadow AI risks, unregulated GenAI use, and growing threats from unmanaged devices in hybrid work settings.

The report also exposes deep structural challenges, including an 84% talent shortage and fragmented security infrastructures impeding effective threat response. With 77% of Malaysian firms anticipating cyber disruptions within the next two years.

Cisco urges a shift toward simplified, AI-powered defense strategies. “This year’s data highlights a critical need for secure, scalable AI integration and smarter investment in cyber resilience,” said Tay Bee Kheng, President of Cisco ASEAN.
