SEREMBAN, May 22 –  Mawar Medical Centre has made medical history in Negeri Sembilan by becoming the first hospital in the state to perform Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), a groundbreaking, minimally invasive procedure designed to help patients achieve significant weight loss and manage obesity-related health conditions.

Led by Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr Sattian Kollanthavelu, the team successfully completed five ESG cases in a single day, showcasing the procedure’s efficiency as a day-care treatment with quick recovery times. ESG reduces the stomach’s capacity using an endoscopic suturing device without the need for surgery, making it ideal for patients with a BMI of 28 and above who seek a non-surgical, scar-free solution.

Beyond its physical benefits—like an expected weight loss of 15–20% within a year—ESG supports improvements in type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and fatty liver disease, while fostering long-term lifestyle changes and psychological well-being. Dr Sattian highlights ESG as part of a holistic, team-based approach to weight management, marking a paradigm shift in the fight against obesity in Malaysia.
