PUTRAJAYA, May 27 — Drug use in Malaysia saw a significant decline of 10.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2025, with Kelantan recording the sharpest drop following intensified enforcement against illegal border crossings, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution announced today.

He attributed the success to targeted operations shutting down “jalan tikus” — unregulated entry points commonly used for drug smuggling — and increased awareness campaigns. Speaking after his ministry’s monthly assembly.

Saifuddin said the crackdown was focused on four border states most affected by drug trafficking: Kelantan, Pahang, Kedah, and Perlis. The National Anti-Drugs Agency has also expanded its educational outreach to involve more stakeholders while enhancing border security to sustain the progress.
