KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 — Malaysia’s economy grew by 4.4% in the first quarter of 2025, supported by resilient household spending, a strong labour market, and sustained export performance, Bank Negara Malaysia announced today. The growth aligns with earlier projections and underscores the country’s steady post-pandemic recovery momentum.
Private consumption, which remains a key economic driver, expanded 5% year-on-year in Q1, slightly easing from 5.3% in the previous quarter. Economists point to stable employment conditions and ongoing wage growth as factors underpinning domestic demand, while continued strength in exports provided additional support to GDP performance.
