KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — Malaysia recorded a 78 per cent spike in ransomware cases in Q4 2024, sparking urgent calls for global collaboration in tackling increasingly complex cyber threats, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said today. Speaking at the launch of the inaugural Cyber Games 2025, he stressed the need for a united international front to counter the rise of borderless cybercrimes, including data breaches and digital fraud.
Hosted in Kuala Lumpur with support from the Council of Europe, INTERPOL, and NACSA, the Cyber Games brings together 120 participants from 40 countries for high-pressure cyberattack simulations and real-time digital forensic exercises. Gobind reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to cybersecurity, highlighting its Asean 2025 chairmanship priorities and the nation’s upcoming accession to the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime, alongside plans to table a new Cybercrime Bill by year-end.
