KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 – Microsoft has announced that its first Malaysian hyperscale cloud region, the Malaysia West cloud region, is on track to go live in Q2 2025. Strategically located in Greater Kuala Lumpur, the new cloud region will play a pivotal role in accelerating the country’s cloud and AI transformation while enabling organizations to meet local data residency regulations with trusted Microsoft technologies.

According to IDC’s “Microsoft Cloud Dividend Snapshot,” the cloud region is projected to generate US$10.9 billion in new revenue and create 37,575 new jobs by 2028, including 5,700 skilled IT roles. In tandem with this infrastructure investment, Microsoft is also advancing its “AI for Malaysia’s Future” initiative to upskill 800,000 Malaysians in AI by the end of 2025, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to Malaysia’s digital growth, innovation, and economic resilience.
