KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo emphasized that the integration of technology must be aligned with national laws to maintain a sustainable digital ecosystem. Speaking at the ASEAN-GCC Economic Forum 2025, he highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue between the government and stakeholders to establish a robust legal framework that accommodates technological advancements while avoiding conflicts with existing regulations.

Gobind noted that the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) has a dedicated unit to address legal-tech conflicts and urged parties facing such issues to engage with the office. His remarks come in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s earlier proposal for a new law to enable artificial intelligence (AI) to operate with fewer legal restrictions.

While acknowledging the need for technological transformation, Anwar argued that such a law is crucial to ensure AI’s growth without compromising national sovereignty. Gobind, however, stressed the necessity of lawful tech deployment, reinforcing the government’s commitment to responsible digital progress.
