KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced the formation of an informal committee aimed at uniting the Malay community under a “big umbrella” initiative.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting with political figures including Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, and Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Dr Mahathir said the committee’s purpose is singular — to defend and uplift the Malay community, which he believes currently lacks strong, dedicated representation.
Dr Mahathir emphasized that the movement is not aligned with any specific party and is open to all Malays, including members of Umno, as long as they share the same objective.
“We’re not concerned with other problems, we just want to focus on one struggle — the struggle to save the Malays,” he stated, adding that lasting solutions to the community’s issues would only come if Malays once again led the government.
