SINGAPORE, July 1 — Malaysia and Singapore officially unveiled the first train set for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, marking a major milestone in cross-border connectivity.
At the unveiling held at Singapore’s Rail Test Centre, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke shared that RTS fares will be finalised after a market study, with a pricing mechanism aimed at encouraging public transport use across the Causeway.
Loke also emphasised Malaysia’s push for an open payment system, while Singapore’s Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow noted that RTSO — the joint operator between Prasarana and SMRT — would set fares based on market conditions.
Operating hours and maintenance needs are still under review. Loke described the project as not just a transport solution but a symbol of stronger Malaysia-Singapore ties, especially under the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
