A newly discovered feature in the iOS 26 beta has revealed that FaceTime will automatically freeze video and audio if nudity is detected during a call. Originally announced as part of Apple’s Communication Safety tools for child accounts.

The feature now appears to affect adult users as well. When nudity is detected, the app pauses the call and displays a warning message, offering users the option to resume or end the conversation. While the safety tool is powered by on-device machine learning and ensures no data is sent to Apple.

Its application to all users has sparked privacy concerns. Some have criticized the move as excessive censorship, questioning whether such interventions should extend beyond child accounts. It remains unclear if this behavior is intentional or a bug in the beta version of iOS 26.

Apple has yet to officially comment on the feature’s scope or confirm whether the freeze will remain part of the final release. As iOS 26 continues through its beta phase, further clarification is expected ahead of the public launch later this year.
