KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 — The Malaysian Football League (MFL) has announced a reduction in the on-field foreign player quota from 7 to 6 for the upcoming 2025-2026 Malaysia League season, aiming to strike a better balance between foreign and local talents.

The revised 6+3 composition (4 Open + 1 Asia + 1 ASEAN with 3 on the bench) was decided during MFL’s 14th Board of Directors meeting and comes after feedback from clubs and the desire to further develop local players for national duty.

MFL also unveiled the full season calendar, with the season set to kick off on August 8, 2025, with the Sumbangsih Cup clash between Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Selangor FC at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium — doubling as the Super League opener.

The 10-month season will include key tournaments such as the FA Cup (starting August 15), Malaysia Cup (starting January 17, 2026), and the MFL Challenge Cup (beginning February 6, 2026), with finals concluding in May and April respectively.

Fixture adjustments remain possible, depending on AFC Champions League draws, ASEAN Club Championship schedules, FIFA calendar events, and national holidays.
