KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Istana Negara has issued a firm reminder that appointments to Malaysia’s top courts must be carried out with integrity and in strict adherence to the Federal Constitution, cautioning against any attempts to politicise the process.
In a statement posted on His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page, the palace emphasised the critical importance of preserving checks and balances in the judiciary, particularly regarding appointments to the Federal Court, Court of Appeal, and High Court.
Referring to Article 122B of the Federal Constitution, the palace reiterated that while the Yang di-Pertuan Agong appoints judges upon the advice of the prime minister and consultation with the Conference of Rulers, the process must remain lawful and free from political influence.
The statement comes amid public scrutiny over vacancies for the Chief Justice and President of the Court of Appeal, following the recent retirements of Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim.
