KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 — A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer told the Sessions Court today that he had reported to his superiors about Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli’s claim of giving money to former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng.
MACC Senior Superintendent Ng Heng Jun said the revelation was made during a 2019 fraud investigation involving G. Gnanaraja, and a special probe was later initiated into the matter. Ng clarified that while he was not involved in the bribery investigation against Lim, he had encouraged Zarul to submit evidence separately to avoid overlap, as the cases were distinct.
Lim faces multiple charges for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes related to the RM6.3 billion Penang undersea tunnel project, as well as two counts involving the disposal of state land to a developer linked to the project. The trial continues on July 22.
