KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed Malaysia’s firm stance on the Gaza crisis to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, calling for an immediate end to the violence and the urgent facilitation of humanitarian aid.
During their 40-minute meeting in Parliament, Anwar emphasised that the suffering in Palestine has far-reaching consequences, including in Southeast Asia. “He seemed confident there will be a ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid, especially into Gaza,” Anwar said.
“But I made it clear that we too are affected when there is invasion and disruption.” Rubio, on his first visit to Asia since becoming Secretary of State, is in Malaysia for the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Anwar added that the two leaders also discussed ASEAN affairs.
With the US reaffirming its commitment to maintaining and strengthening ties with Malaysia and the wider Southeast Asian region.
