KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu has assured the public that chicken egg supply in Malaysia remains stable and sufficient, even after the government reduced the egg subsidy from 10 sen to five sen per egg on May 1.
He said the steady supply reflects the resilience and sustainability of the local production system, which has not been negatively impacted by the subsidy cut. The government’s decision to fully discontinue the subsidy by August 1 is part of a broader policy shift aimed at strengthening fiscal responsibility and ensuring long-term food security.
The ministry said the move was made after consulting industry players, who have committed to maintaining supply levels without reliance on prolonged subsidies.
