KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 — Malaysia remains on course to achieve its gross domestic product (GDP) growth target of 4 to 5 per cent in 2025, despite signs of a global trade slowdown, according to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
He said that while some trade activity may have been frontloaded earlier this year, growth momentum is expected to sustain into the coming months. Tengku Zafrul also addressed ongoing discussions with the United States on trade tariffs.
Revealing that talks are progressing with potential for tariff reductions in key sectors such as pharmaceuticals and semiconductors. He noted, however, that not all foreign requests will be accepted, particularly those that may not align with Malaysia’s national interests.
