OpenAI has officially rolled out its ChatGPT Agent feature to the Mac app, allowing users to assign complex, multi-step tasks directly from their desktops. The Agent combines Deep Research—used for interpreting and analyzing web content—with Operator, a tool that can visually interact with websites and platforms like Google Drive and GitHub.

Users can activate it using the /agent command or via the new Agent button, track its reasoning timeline, and intervene at any point. In live demos, OpenAI showcased the Agent handling real-world scenarios like planning a destination wedding, sourcing data from Google Drive to create presentations, and preparing online orders.

The tool autonomously visited websites, generated code, created maps, pulled data, and even interacted with online stores—all while providing transparent updates for user review. It essentially acts as a highly capable AI assistant you can assign tasks to and check back on later.

Currently, ChatGPT Agent is available to Pro, Plus, and Team plan users, with usage limits set at 400 tasks per month for Pro and 40 for Plus and Team. OpenAI plans to extend access to Enterprise and Edu subscribers by the end of July.
