BOISE, August 5 — Micron Technology has unveiled a revolutionary portfolio of data center SSDs designed to meet the soaring demands of AI workloads, anchored by the world’s first PCIe Gen6 SSD, the 9650. Powered by Micron’s cutting-edge 9th-generation (G9) 3D NAND, this new lineup redefines performance, capacity, and energy efficiency standards for enterprise and hyperscale data centers.

The Micron 9650 SSD delivers up to 28 GB/s sequential read speeds—twice that of PCIe Gen5 drives—and excels in AI training and inference applications, with up to 5.5 million IOPS for random reads. Complementing this is the Micron 6600 ION, the industry’s first 122TB E3.S SSD, which offers a 67% increase in storage density and massive energy savings.

Rounding out the trio, the 7600 Gen5 SSD provides sub-1ms latency and unmatched responsiveness for mainstream AI workloads, making it ideal for applications requiring predictable performance. With samples of the 9650 and 7600 SSDs already shipping and the 122TB 6600 ION due in Q3 2025.

Micron’s vertically integrated design—encompassing in-house controller, NAND, DRAM, and firmware—ensures tight quality control and security. A 245TB version of the 6600 ION is expected in 2026, further pushing the boundaries of storage capacity in a compact form factor.

Industry leaders including NVIDIA, Dell Technologies, AMD, and Supermicro praised the new SSDs for unlocking next-generation AI capabilities. With superior interoperability, energy efficiency, and unprecedented performance, Micron’s latest storage solutions position the company at the forefront of data center innovation in the AI era.
