PHNOM PENH, August 8 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has officially nominated former U.S. President Donald J. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his pivotal role in brokering a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.
In a formal letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Hun Manet praised Trump’s “visionary and innovative diplomacy,” crediting him with helping to avert a potentially catastrophic border conflict and restore regional stability.
The Prime Minister described Trump’s intervention as a decisive act of statesmanship that prevented the loss of countless lives and aligned with the spirit of Alfred Nobel’s legacy. “This timely intervention was vital in preventing great loss of lives and paved the way towards the restoration of peace between the two countries,” Hun Manet wrote.
He also highlighted Trump’s broader record of conflict de-escalation efforts across volatile regions, calling him a leader who embodies the values of international fraternity and peace.
