FREMONT, September 1 — Blackmagic Design has officially rolled out DaVinci Resolve 20.1, a powerful new update that enhances spatial video editing workflows for immersive content creators. The update adds full support for Apple Immersive Video and Spatial Audio, allowing editors to work with stereoscopic 8K footage captured using the URSA Cine Immersive camera — the world’s first professional system built specifically for Apple Vision Pro.

With new tools to monitor immersive video directly in Vision Pro and an updated 3D audio mixer compatible with AirPods, creators can now deliver fully immersive cinematic experiences with precision and ease. One of the biggest additions in Resolve 20.1 is the immersive video viewer, which lets users pan, tilt, and roll footage for review on 2D monitors or directly in Vision Pro.
The update also introduces advanced masking features like the new Edge Mask, enabling editors to eliminate unwanted elements from immersive shots. Editors can now convert spatial footage into flat compositions to patch visuals, add titles, or insert graphics. Native support for Apple’s Spatial Audio Format (ASAF) also allows accurate 3D sound mixing, complete with binaural monitoring and head tracking.

The new export tools let creators render immersive content directly for Apple’s ecosystem using built-in presets for the Immersive Video Utility and Apple Compressor. Available now as a free upgrade for DaVinci Resolve Studio users on macOS, version 20.1 marks a significant leap forward for immersive content production — offering an all-in-one solution for editing, color grading, VFX, and audio mixing in a spatial 3D environment.
