GEORGE TOWN, August 13 — DAP has strongly condemned attempts by certain parties to pressure the Attorney General’s Chambers into prosecuting a Penang shopkeeper who mistakenly displayed the Jalur Gemilang incorrectly outside his premises.

Describing the move as an unacceptable interference in prosecutorial decisions, DAP Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook stressed that the Attorney General must be allowed to act independently without political pressure.

He criticised threats to stage protests outside the shop if charges are not filed soon, calling it a blatant act of bullying — particularly against a senior citizen — that must be opposed in the same way school bullying is rejected.

In response, DAP will sponsor and install a giant Jalur Gemilang at the shop yesterday evening to clearly display the flag correctly. Loke added that if any party attempts to disrupt peace at the premises, Penang DAP members will counter the intimidation by distributing 831 Jalur Gemilang flags for free.

Promoting unity in the spirit of the upcoming National Day on August 31.
