BINTULU, September 13 — Sakura Ferroalloys celebrated a decade of operations in Sarawak with the official opening of its US$31 million (RM141 million) Sinter Plant and the groundbreaking of its US$82.5 million (RM346.5 million) Refined Ferromanganese Converter, known as Project Salamander.
Located in Samalaju Industrial Park, the expansion will strengthen production efficiency and diversify its product portfolio, enabling the company to supply medium and low-carbon ferromanganese to global specialised alloy markets by mid-2027.
The milestone event also marked the entry of JFE Mineral & Alloy Company, Ltd. as Sakura Ferroalloys’ fourth shareholder, joining Assore, Sumitomo Corporation, and China Steel Corporation. Supported by MIDA and MINTRED, the projects reflect Malaysia’s appeal for high-value, sustainable investments under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030.
With over 4 million safe man-hours achieved and continued investment in innovation, Sakura reaffirmed its commitment to driving industrial growth, sustainability, and socio-economic benefits for Sarawak and Malaysia.
