SELANGOR, November 1 – The Selangor State Government, through Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporation) or MBI Selangor, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) to designate Sabak Bernam and its adjacent districts — parts of Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor known as Anjung Utara Selangor — as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Announced during the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2025, the collaboration marks a major step in promoting sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and scientific research under the Sabak Bernam Development Area (SABDA) initiative.

Supported by a RM500,000 research grant, the partnership empowers UMT to lead comprehensive ecological and socioeconomic studies, paving the way for the UNESCO nomination dossier. The initiative underscores Selangor’s commitment to balancing economic progress with environmental stewardship and positioning Anjung Utara as a national model for climate resilience and sustainable growth.
