PETALING JAYA, November 10 – Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) has unveiled Malaysia’s first Phase I Clinical Investigation Unit within a teaching hospital, marking a major step in advancing early-stage clinical research and first-in-human trials.
Designed as a self-contained “mini hospital” with 10 clinical beds, observation rooms, and 24-hour medical oversight, the facility will focus on oncology and other therapeutic areas such as neurology, haematology, and cardiology.
The unit is progressing toward NPRA accreditation to conduct safe, high-standard Phase I studies, enabling patients earlier access to innovative treatments while enhancing UMMC’s role in medical training and research.
