GEORGE TOWN, October 22 — Cultprint opened its latest exhibition, The City of Willows, to over 200 guests, featuring an immersive collaboration between Malaysian artist Chong Yan Chuah and scholar Simon Soon, curated by Deborah Lim.
Transforming the 1,500 sq ft heritage space into a cinematic red chamber, the show centers on a fully playable video game installation inspired by 19th-century secret societies and Peranakan culture. Blending historical research and digital art, the exhibition reimagines Southeast Asian cultural memory through mythic storytelling and speculative futures.
The opening also featured an artist dialogue exploring how gaming and technology can activate community narratives, reinforcing Cultprint’s reputation as Penang’s leading platform for contemporary art experimentation and cross-cultural dialogue.
